What are the levels of English Language Proficiency?
The English language proficiency levels show how students at different English proficiency levels process, understand, and produce language.
What are WIDA's Can Do Descriptors?
WIDA's Can Do Descriptors were made by teachers who work with English language learners. They are divided by the four language domains of listening, speaking, reading, and writing and the five levels of English language proficiency.
The Can Do Descriptors describe how English language learners process and use language for each language domain and level of language proficiency by grade level cluster. They are often used by ESL teachers in coaching mainstream teachers about differentiated instruction for English language learners. They can also be used to lesson plan and observe student progress. The WIDA Can Do Descriptors help give teachers a basic overview of what the listening, speaking, reading, and writing proficiency level results indicate about their students' abilities.
