1. Choose a Poet
Students will be divided into small groups and as a group, they will select one poet they would like to battle about. The objective is for students to tell the teacher who the good poets are, not the other way around. Students examples that students could choose from are:

2. Research
First, students should narrow their research by selecting what works of poetry they will examine. Then each group should identify all of the figurative language and poetic devices their poet uses. Finally, each group should examine their poet's work and critically think about the best way to showcase it in the form of a rap video. Each group needs to have a clear vision for their rap video and make sure to effectively communicate why their poet is the best, apply at least 5 academic language words, and wow the audience!
